Manchester City kicked off the 2023/24 Premier League season with a clinical 3-0 win at Championship winners Burnley. Golden Boot-holder Erling Haaland scored twice as the Cityzens began their defence of the title in ruthless fashion. Rodri added the champions ' third in the second half. Vincent Kompany's side gave Man City a few scares though were unable to maintain any constant threat, while Anass Zaroury was sent off late in the day for a dangerous tackle on Kyle Walker. How the game unfolded Just four minutes into the new season, Haaland scored his first goal. Soon after that opener, Burnley were incensed they weren't awarded a penalty when Manuel Akanji appeared to drag Zeki Amdouni to the ground, but referee Craig Pawson wasn't interested, nor was VAR Michael Oliver. Aston Villa 2-1 Tottenham: Player ratings as Villa win improves Europe hopes

Aston Villa bolstered their Europa League qualification hopes by beating Tottenham 2-1 thanks to strikes from Jacob Ramsey and Douglas Luiz. Leon Bailey worked a yard of space and pulled his cross towards the young midfield, who coolly placed his effort beyond Fraser Forster into the bottom corner. It was the seventh time in their last five league Game s Spurs had conceded in th...

Steve Cooper's men defended with resilience but ran out of luck in the closing stages as the Bees battled from a goal down to claim all three points. The first half nearly came and went without a chance until a long Brentford throw-in caused some chaos just before the break, with Keylor Navas grabbing Ethan Pinnock's quick snap-shot at the second attempt. And with the final kick of the opening 45, Forest went ahead. Moussa Niakhate's throw fell to Morgan Gibbs-White on the edge of the box, and his deflected strike was poked in from close range by Danilo. After the break, an improvised overhead kick from Niakhate caught David Raya off guard, but the Spaniard was able to parry the effort away from danger. Ben Mee then tried an overhead kick of his own from a corner, but this one sailed over the top. But despite ...
