NBA Nuggets vs Lakers Best Bets for Monday, May 22 from Pickswise expert handicapper Mark Zinno

It’s another big night in the NBA playoffs as the Denver Nuggets are looking to sweep the Los Angeles Lakers in Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals at 8:30 pm ET on ESPN. I went 3-0 with my picks for the Heat vs Celtics game on Friday, so let’s try to find some more winners. I have picked out 2 plays I like for Game 4 of the Nuggets vs Lakers series, so let’s get into the reasoning behind those picks.

Nuggets +3.5 (-115, BetMGM)

It’s Game 4 of the Western Conference Finals as the Denver Nuggets go for the sweep over the Los Angeles Lakers. The Nuggets have been the better team through the first three games of this series. They are shooting better than 49% from the field and 41% from beyond the arc as the Lakers defense had fallen apart. Coming into this series, LA was allowing opponents to shoot just 42% from the field and 33% from 3-point range. And stats don’t even tell the whole story for the Lakers, who are getting statistical contributions from LeBron James and Anthony Davis, but they just aren’t impactful. When Davis scored 40 in Game 1 and the Lakers still lost, if felt like the best chance for Los Angeles to set the tone for the series was gone.

There is a narrative that the Lakers won’t get swept and won’t lost Game 4 at home. I understand it, but the Games so far have told a different story. The Nuggets are a win away from their first ever trip to the NBA Finals and I don’t expect them to let up or take it easy in this one. I’m getting the better team, in a clinching scenario, catching points and I will take them. Nuggets +3.5.

Over 224 points (-110)

Two of the games in this series have gone over the total, with Game 2 being the only one that stayed under. The hot shooting of the Nuggets would need to cool off for this to stay under. In Game 2, Denver shot only 43% from the field and 36% from three, keeping the total under. The Lakers have not had an answer for the Nuggets’ role players or Jamal Murray to this point.
If Denver isn’t making shots, this game should be going under. Also if the Lakers hope to extend the series, they will have to shoot better than they have in the first two games. If that happens, obviously the scoring will go up. These playoffs have been tougher to figure out as we’ve gone deeper into them, but the Lakers winning an under game doesn’t seem likely unless the Nuggets are just fla-out awful and it’s a blowout.  I like the over.
